Odisha’s Sunapur Beach, in the Ganjam district, saw the grand inauguration of its much-awaited eco-retreat on Sunday. This initiative aims to boost eco-tourism in the region while offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the pristine beauty of Sunapur’s tranquil shoreline.
There is the central part of the eco-retreat with its luxurious, temporary tents that offer full modern comfort. They aim at offering an enjoyable and, above all, environmentally friendly experience to visitors. Such nature-loving travelers and tourists look for comfortable yet eco-friendly traveling without compromising their level of comfort. This place retreat is strategically located among serene, natural settings at Sunapur Beach, where families, couples, or lonely travelers would find it just a perfect spot for getaways.
The retreat place has a variety of activities including guided tours, water games, and cultural events which help to celebrate the richness of Odisha. Moreover, the visitors can relish traditional Odia dishes by local chefs to give it a more authentic taste. This is a part of the initiative by the Odisha government for promoting tourism but without the disturbance of the ecological balance.
Whereas the eco-retreat at Sunapur has already taken off in full swing, the Gopalpur-on-Sea retreat, which is another significant project of the district, is lying non-operational. While it was constructed in 2020 with an investment of ₹9 crore, the Gopalpur retreat has yet to be inaugurated for tourist use. This 45-acre facility comprises 14 air-conditioned cottages, a children’s park, landscaped gardens, a swimming pool, and a wooden bridge. However, the Berhampur Development Authority (BeDA) is currently renting it out for private events such as weddings.
The Gopalpur retreat has been under political reason for its delayed inauguration. It was constructed during the tenure of Pradeep Panigrahy, a former legislator of the ruling BJD, who was later expelled from the party. The political setback staled the official launch of the facility, and its potential went untapped.
The opening of the Sunapur eco-retreat, which has been a success, will set a precedent for similar projects in the region. The retreat promises to attract tourists from all over the country, thereby adding to the local economy and providing employment opportunities. It further strengthens Odisha’s reputation as a prime destination for eco-tourism.
Sunapur is now open to tourists who can enjoy an unforgettable experience combining luxury, nature, and sustainability.
